Abstract
- Acanthus ilicifolius (Acanthaceae) is aquatic plant that normally lives in
the mangrove area. A. ilicifolius is lesser-known as medicinal plant. So its
very essential to have a documentation of medicine used, phytopotency and
phytochemical compounds on this plants for improvement of health and hygiene
through an environment-friendly. This is a descriptive study, through
literature and observations, that preliminary study for phytotechnology of A.
ilicifolius. The review find that A. ilicifolius is important both in
traditional and modern medicine, to prevent and cure of human diseases. The
active compounds of A. ilicifolius
potential as hepatoprotective, cardiovascular protective, anti-inflammatory,
anti-nociceptive, anti-pyretic, anti-tumor, anti-cancer, anti-mutagenic,
anti-ulcer, anti-oxidant, antimicrobial, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal,
antiseptic, antifoulant, insecticidal, larvacidal, pisicides, biopesticide,
biocencentration and biomonitoring. Since A. ilicifolius is important, it should
be domesticated, studied, conserved and exploited for medicinal and other
purposes for the human beings.
