Selection in Wastewater Garden for Domestic Waste Water Treatment
Abstract - Characteristics
of domestic wastewater contains a lot of organic material. The alternative
wastewater treatment systems can used
biological wastewater as a primary choice. Technology of biological
wastewater treatment system that
more
economic and ecologic is Wastewater Garden (WWG). Besides being used as a wastewater
treatment plant, WWG planted an ornamental aquatic plants. Therefore wastewater
treatment give aesthetic value as a garden. Every species of aquatic plant in
diversity have different abilities in absorb, accumulate and transform of
organic contaminants contain in the domestic wastewater. For example, species Cyperus alternifolius have reasonably
good performance in domestic wastewater treatment. The purpose of this paper is
to selected the ornamental aquatic plants are suitable for, effective and
efficient if applied in wastewater garden and describe of domestic wastewater
after treatment are used. The composition of plants that can be applied to
wastewater garden are Eichornia crassipes,
Pistia stratoites, Scirpus grossus, Echinodorus paleafolius, Nymphaea
‘firecrest’, Typha angustifolia, Cyperus alternifolius, and Equisetum hyemale. Output of the
wastewater garden can be used for watering plants, washing vehicles and as a
household water supply.
