Abstract The old botanical garden is very important for the advancement of science and culture. Along with the development, botanic gardens act as a central resource conservation, research and development. In Indonesia, the botanical garden is an ex-situ conservation of plants with the duty of conservation, inventory, exploration and research on plants of Indonesia. There the Purwodadi Botanical Garden plays its role on conservation, research, education and ecotourism. The main characteristics of a botanical garden is the plants collection and documentation with the support collection such as the seed collection and the herbarium. The seed collection are responsible for handling the management of garden seed materials. Materials from the seed collection have specific characteristics and unique. The seeds stored in the seed museum and the seed bank. The seed museum contains a collection of seeds are preserved for exhibition purposes as well as for the identification of the seed diversity, while the seed bank functions as a support for ex-situ conservation as complementary, supplementary and active collection. Along with the development of the technology the seed collection is not on manual systems, but also computerized, for more systematic and regular. Therefore it can improve the management of the seed and reliable information as the basis for the seed conservation. In this paper the seed conservation in the Purwodadi Botanical Garden from technical management to basic research will be discussed. The seed conservation efforts focused on the management procedure and working mechanism, with the result of information a fruitful periode, seed collecting, seed processing and documentation of data collection seed bank, and seed testing.
